Protect Your Facebook Account From Spam Complaints/Accusations
The first thing you can do is avoid spam complaints from your Facebook friends who are not playing Mafia Wars and other games. They just don’t get it! You really don’t want to fill their walls with the details of your accomplishments in the game.
Here are some Facebook Mafia Wars tips for adjusting your account. First, change your Mafia Wars Application settings as follows:
- Post 1 line stories. These stories will show up on your profile page, and not as statuses. In other words, your accomplishments in Mafia Wars won’t get splashed all over your friends pages. (Let’s face it, those graphics are WALL HOGS!)
- Don’t publish information about sending gifts in Mafia Wars at all. Gifting inside the game happens an awful lot and it doesn’t mean much to anyone except you and the gift receiver/giver.
- Do not set the Mafia Wars App to publish your wish list. You can post your wish list on your game profile. Then email your game profile link to your mafia, with a wish list.
- What is your game profile link? It looks like this http://facebook.com/inthemafia/…=view&user=yourFacebookuserid
- Do not set the Mafia Wars App to publish your job requests. Job requests are in the newsfeeds that go out to your mafia members. Non-gamers don’t care what you need to complete a Mafia Wars job.
Adjusting those settings is the first step to protecting your non-gaming friends from what can be perceived as Mafia Wars spam. Just because we love this game doesn’t mean everyone does!
Expand Your Mafia Wars Crew with Ease!
Adjusting those game settings will minimize the monster status updates polluting their (uninterested!) walls. The odds of someone who is your Facebook friend reporting you for spam go way down once you do this.
You can take anti-spam precautions to the next level with the following Facebook Mafia Wars tips, if you’ve got the gumption. You can segregate your Facebook account so that your non-game friends see your regular statuses and photos and info, and your Mafia Wars friends just see your game details.
When your mafia gets large, you may not want everyone who joins your family to see personal photos or statuses, right? You can do this by sorting your newsfeed and adjusting Facebook account settings.
At Facebook, go to “friends” – “lists” – “create” and make two lists: One list of friends and family. One list for mafia wars. Sort your current Facebook friends and Mafia Wars family into the lists.
Then go to “settings” – “privacy” – “profile” and customize your newsfeeds by using the drop down menus to exclude a list from that aspect of your Facebook account. For example, you can allow your Mafia Wars family to see just your Statuses and Links, and exclude them from the rest of your Facebook account by selecting “except these people” and then identifying the name of your newly created Mafia Wars list as the exclusion at each listing title.
You block your photos in the same way, by excluding the Mafia Wars list from viewing. Or alternately, excluding your friends and family from seeing specific photos related to Mafia Wars.
If you want to insulate your non-gaming friends from Mafia Wars posts more completely, go to “application settings” and edit your application settings for Mafia Wars. Only in this case, you’ll be excluding your friends and family list from your Mafia Wars posts. This is really being polite and protecting yourself from the spammer label 100%!
