Hello New Mafia Wars Robbery & Property
Okay, for once Zynga is off my **it list.
Would you believe that in one short week they have announced that they plan to get rid of my least favorite innovation – rackets! – and bring back my most favorite removed feature – robbery!
Whoo hoo!
Okay, maybe you don’t share my enthusiasm. If you’ve invested time and energy into rackets and earned a boatload of Influence stat, you could be cranked at this change. If you’ve got rackets, Zynga promises to “fold you in” to the new Mafia Wars property launch, but about a week or two (in zynga time?) after they roll out the new properties. But good news: it looks like Zynga will be letting you move Influence into the other stats – your choice! So that won’t be a waste.

Yeah, I know the boost rackets were sweet, but I just couldn’t stand being collared to those short term cash rackets.
Evidence to the contrary, I do have life and I don’t want to be late to my brother’s SuperBowl party because I have to collect my Mafia Wars rackets, ya know?
So, rackets are out. I thought Zynga was nuts to roll out rackets while Mafia Wars properties were so well established, anyway.
Of course, with the sweet is some sour. Some of the racket features will be included on the changes for NY properties. Yes, the return of Mafia Wars robbery is going to mean changes across the board for Mafia Wars properties in New York. I’m going to be cautiously optimistic and say it will be better.
Property changes? Mafia Mikes and Louie’s Deli will still be unrobbable. However, no more undeveloped space. And any vacant lots you’ve got will be sold off and the cash deposited into your Mafia Wars profile. I guess we should be glad that these lots won’t be sold off at a loss as they would be in real life real estate crisis.
And hey, hurry up and get the “Cashing OUt” achievement, because you won’t be able to sell properties any more in the new system. Plus you’ll need the newest Flash player to view properties. Looks like you will be upgrading high end properties instead of buying multiples like before. So your 30 Mega Casinos will become one Level 30 Casino. The take will stay the same, they promise.
And properties won’t be shut down anymore. Details are sketchy, but I think Zynga is considering reducing the “damage” issue with robbery. Your properties will crank out money at the same rate, but the collection schedule will change to be more like rackets. The take will be ready between 8 hours and 2 days depending on the type of property, and you’ll get a certain “safe” time to collect the take where no one can steal it. If you let your money sit uncollected for too long, then you can be robbed. No word yet about whether they will still have robbery successes hinged on the number of people in your mafia.
One exciting development – looks like Zynga plans to introduce the new Mafia Wars robbing into all the venues. Uncollected business profits will be vulnerable to robbery in Cuba, Moscow, and Bangkok. No word on the release date for that change, but hey we are still waiting for the doors to open to everyone on Mafia Wars Bangkok, right?
Even weirder, Zynga is going to bring businesses to New York. I guess they want to use all the code they wrote for rackets somehow. Word is the NY businesses will be cash producing at first, not boost producing as upper rackets were.
I think all these changes to Mafia Wars New York – properties, robbing, businesses – are going to make Mafia wars New York more exciting. Especially for new players just starting out. I think Zynga looses people when they find that they can’t go to the more exotic venues (Cuba, Moscow) right away. That’s why they designed Mafia Wars Bangkok so beginners could go almost immediately. But I’m just speculating.
